Major Traffic Disruption on Hunter Expressway After Two-Car Collision
Update – SITE CLEARED
A serious motor vehicle accident has caused significant delays on the Hunter Expressway near Standen Drive in Lower Belford. The crash, involving two vehicles, was first reported at 3:49 PM today. As a result of the collision, one of two eastbound lanes (lane 2) has been closed, creating heavy traffic congestion in the area. East Bound traffic is backed up for more than 2.5km.
Emergency services, including police, paramedics, and fire crews, are currently attending to the scene. Transport for NSW has also deployed personnel to manage traffic and ensure the safety of road users. It remains unclear if any injuries have been sustained, but initial reports indicate that persons may be trapped inside one of the vehicles involved. Efforts are underway to safely extricate any individuals still inside. Motorists traveling through the area should anticipate significant delays and allow extra travel time.
Authorities are urging drivers to reduce their speed and exercise extreme caution as they approach the scene of the crash. Heavy traffic is already building up, and the lane closure is expected to remain in effect for some time while emergency crews work to clear the scene and conduct an investigation into the cause of the accident.
The Hunter Expressway is a key arterial road in the region, and with only one lane currently open in the eastbound direction, drivers are being advised to seek alternate routes if possible. Transport for NSW will continue to provide updates on the status of the incident as the situation develops.
