A 38-year-old man will appear in court today after an alleged police pursuit through Lake Macquarie on Monday afternoon.
Around 2:55 PM on 2 December 2024, officers from the Lake Macquarie Police District attempted to stop a vehicle on Hayden Brook Drive, Woodrising. The vehicle allegedly failed to stop, prompting a pursuit through Booragul, Marmong Point, and Bolton Point before halting on Toronto Road.
The driver abandoned the vehicle and reportedly tried to flee on foot but was apprehended after a brief chase. During the arrest, the man and two police officers fell down an embankment. Officers deployed OC spray when the man allegedly continued to resist.
He was taken to Toronto Police Station and later transported to John Hunter Hospital for precautionary checks.
Upon discharge, the man was charged with multiple offenses, including police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly, unlicensed driving, and three counts of hindering or resisting police.
He was refused bail and is set to face Toronto Local Court today, 3 December 2024.
