Following the shooting near Newcastle on Thursday, September 26, 2024, two individuals have faced court today, Friday, September 27, 2024, in Toronto Local Court before Magistrate A. Railton.
Incident Summary:
At approximately 5:30 PM, police were called to O’Donnelltown Road, West Wallsend, where a 39-year-old man was found in bushland with gunshot wounds to both legs. He was treated by paramedics at the scene and transported to John Hunter Hospital in stable condition. It was alleged that the victim had met a 26-year-old man at the location, and the two were known to each other. The 26-year-old suspect fled before authorities arrived. Later that evening, the 26-year-old and a 48-year-old woman turned themselves in at Toronto Police Station. Both were arrested, and charges were filed.

Brayden Leschinkohl did not apply for bail, and bail was refused. His next hearing is also set for a Brief Status Hearing on November 20, 2024, at 9:30 AM in Newcastle Local Court.
