Stroud, NSW – A tragic accident claimed the life of a motorcyclist early Thursday morning in the Hunter region, approximately 85 kilometers north of Newcastle.
Emergency services were called to Booral Washpool Road at Stroud just before 7:00 AM (Thursday, 5 September 2024) after reports of a collision between a motorcycle and a silver Holden Captiva SUV.
Police from the Port Stephens-Hunter Police District arrived on the scene and were informed that the crash involved a northbound motorcyclist and a southbound vehicle. Sadly, the motorcyclist, believed to be a man in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene. Formal identification has yet to be confirmed.
The driver of the SUV, a 62-year-old woman, was not injured in the incident. She was transported to Dungog Hospital for mandatory testing, a standard procedure in such cases.
Authorities have established a crime scene and are conducting an investigation with assistance from the Crash Investigation Unit to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident. A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
