Newcastle Police are actively investigating an armed robbery that took place in Cooks Hill late Tuesday night.
At around 10:00 p.m., a man entered a store on Darby Street and confronted a 29-year-old employee. Armed with both a knife and a crowbar, the man threatened the staff member while demanding cash and cigarettes. Fearing for his safety, the employee complied and handed over an undisclosed amount of money.
After securing the cash, the assailant fled the scene on foot. Police were quickly called, and officers arrived to carry out patrols of the surrounding area. However, despite an immediate search, the suspect could not be located.
Investigators are now working to gather more information, including reviewing any available CCTV footage and speaking with potential witnesses. The suspect is described as a man wearing dark clothing at the time of the incident.
Newcastle Police have urged anyone who was in the area at the time or who may have witnessed anything suspicious to come forward.
