Exciting news for coffee enthusiasts in Maitland—Starbucks is officially coming to Rutherford. A Development Application (DA) has been approved for a new Starbucks location near the Shell service station on the New England Highway.
The highly anticipated outlet will be situated on a side street adjacent to the railway line, providing convenient access for both locals and visitors. To make way for the project, two older houses on the site have been removed, clearing the way for construction.
Access to the new Starbucks will be restricted to the side street, with dedicated entry and exit points designed to minimize traffic congestion in the area. This setup aims to streamline customer flow and maintain safety around the busy highway intersection.
Commenting on the development, Mayor of Maitland Philip Penfold said, “Whether you like their product or not, this is a show of confidence in our city as this will be only one in the Hunter. Council can’t make decisions based on personal view of need for such a business or competition impacts. I’m sure there is more than enough business to go around. 25 new jobs. 24/7.”
The introduction of Starbucks to Rutherford is expected to boost the local economy, creating jobs during both the construction and operational phases. It also marks a significant milestone for the Maitland region, which has seen increased development in recent years, attracting major franchises and businesses to the area.
Stay tuned for updates on this exciting addition to the local dining scene as Maitland continues to grow as a hub for retail and hospitality.
