Fire crews are intensifying their efforts to manage a significant grass fire that started earlier today at 3a Old Punt Rd around the AGL plant and is advancing Southy. Strong winds are carrying embers, causing multiple spot fires to ignite ahead of the main blaze.
The fire remains at advice level, but it is of concern for key facilities, including the Tomago Smelter and the AGL building. In response to the growing number of spot fires, crews have requested additional resources to effectively contain the blaze and prevent further damage. Residents in the area are advised to monitor conditions closely and stay updated with the latest information from emergency services.
