At around 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 5, 2024, a dramatic crash unfolded on Minmi Road in Fletcher. Wallsend Fire and Rescue were called to the scene after reports indicated a driver might be trapped following a collision. Upon arrival, crews discovered a yellow HSV utility with severe damage after striking a tree.
Despite the intensity of the crash, the driver—dubbed “Mr. Drifter” by some onlookers—managed to free himself from the wreckage. NSW Ambulance provided medical assistance, and the driver was later taken to the hospital. Traffic was partially blocked as emergency services responded to the incident.
