A woman has been charged following a fatal crash near Scone earlier this month.
The incident occurred around 3:55 PM on Friday, 4 October 2024, when emergency services were called to Bunnan Road, Owens Gap, 22km west of Scone. A Mitsubishi Lancer, carrying three women, had collided with a Nissan Navara, which had a man and a woman inside.
Tragically, the front passenger of the Mitsubishi, a 76-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 53-year-old female driver and a 39-year-old female passenger were airlifted to John Hunter Hospital for treatment. The driver of the Navara, a 27-year-old man, and his 24-year-old female passenger were also transported to John Hunter Hospital.
Both drivers underwent mandatory testing. Officers from the Hunter Valley Police District and Mid North Coast Crash Investigation Units attended the scene and launched a thorough investigation.
As a result of the investigation, the 53-year-old driver of the Mitsubishi Lancer has been charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving occasioning death, and failing to keep left of the dividing line. She has been issued a court attendance notice and is scheduled to appear before Muswellbrook Local Court on Tuesday, 17 December 2024.
