A man is assisting police with their inquiries following a police operation in the Hunter Valley earlier today.

About 1.30am today (Friday 16 August 2024), police attended a home on Wollombi Road, Millfield.

On arrival, officers attached to Hunter Valley Police District were told a man had barricaded himself inside the home.

Police established a perimeter, and about 10.30am, a 36-year-old man was arrested without incident.

The man was taken to Cessnock Police Station where he is assisting police with inquiries.

Roads have now reopened and those are evacuated are free to return home.
