A 300-metre exclusion zone has been established after five trucks caught fire following a major crash on the Hume Highway near Breadalbane, about 30km south-west of Goulburn.

NSW Rural Fire Service and Fire and Rescue NSW crews are on scene battling the intense blaze, with all five heavy vehicles fully alight. Authorities say the exclusion zone has been put in place due to the intensity of the fire and the flammable contents being carried by the trucks.

The Hume Highway remains closed in both directions, and motorists are urged to avoid the area and follow the directions of emergency services.
