A long-awaited repair to Swansea’s Belmont Street seawall is set to begin this year, with the NSW Government committing $7.5 million to restore the structure and reopen public access to the popular foreshore area.
The seawall has been fenced off for several years due to safety concerns, leaving locals unable to access parts of the waterfront.
Member for Swansea Yasmin Catley announced the funding alongside Lake Macquarie Mayor Adam Shultz and Minister for Roads Jenny Aitchison during a visit to the Swansea foreshore on Friday.
Construction on the project is expected to commence later this year.
Ms Catley said the funding would finally deliver a solution to the long-standing issue and allow the community to once again enjoy the waterfront.
The project is being welcomed as a major win for the Swansea community, restoring access to one of the area’s most scenic foreshore locations.
