Police have issued almost 100 fines for breaching the health orders over night across the Hunter.
Police said one man who was aggressive and abusive towards police has been issued a $3000 infringement notice yesterday.
The man was one of five people issued the fines on Tuesday after police observed the group exercising on a vacant block at the intersection of Cowper Street and Bourke Street, Carrington just after 5.30pm.
Newcastle City Police District were proactively patrolling when they stopped and spoke with four men – two aged 38, one aged 35 and one aged 29 – and a 37-year-old woman.
While speaking to the 29-year-old man, police will allege he became aggressive and abusive towards the officers. He told police he had “no regard for the current Public Health Orders”.
All five were issued $3000 infringement notices for not comply with outdoor gatherings direction.
