A 27-year-old assistant nurse has been charged after police alleged a 79-year-old resident was sexually assaulted at an aged care home in Maclean.
Police say the alleged incidents happened over several months between November 2023 and February 2024. Detectives from the Coffs/Clarence Police District launched an investigation in June this year after the matter was reported.
Following extensive inquiries, officers arrested the man at Grafton Police Station about 9am on Monday.
He has been charged with aggravated sexual assault involving a victim with a cognitive impairment, aggravated sexual touching, and aggravated carrying out a sexual act with another person.
The accused was refused bail when he appeared before the Bail Division Court on Monday. He is due to front Grafton Local Court on 7 September.
Police allege the offences occured while the man was employed as an assistant nurse at the Maclean aged care facility. The charges have not been tested in court.
