Emergency services launched a dramatic rescue operation at Susan Gilmore Beach this afternoon after a man in his 20s plunged while navigating unstable rocks around 2pm.
With the rugged terrain and the seriousness of his injuries complicating the rescue, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter was scrambled to the scene. Crews were forced to winch the injured man from the rocks in a high-stakes operation as onlookers watched in shock.
The man was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.
Authorities are urging beachgoers to avoid venturing onto dangerous rock formations, especially during unpredictable surf conditions.
