Cessnock City Council mourns the passing of former Mayor and Freeman of the City, Alison Davey, who has died aged 86.
Ms Davey served as a Councillor for 29 years, including a term as Mayor from 2008 to 2012, and as Deputy Mayor between September 1998 and September 1999.
A tireless community advocate, she was heavily involved in local organisations such as the Cessnock Chamber of Commerce, Coalfields Healthy Heartbeat, BPW Cessnock, Central Hunter Community Broadcasters, and was a founding member of Cessnock Tidy Towns.
In her professional life, Ms Davey was a dedicated educator, serving as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal across Cessnock and Maitland schools. Alongside her husband, she established the Cessnock Achievement Centre in the 1990s, offering literacy and numeracy tuition to both children and adults.
In 2019, Ms Davey was awarded the City’s highest honour, becoming the 13th Freeman of Cessnock.
The thoughts of everyone at Cessnock City Council are with her family and friends at this difficult time.
