In a devastating incident today, a man in his 30s has tragically drowned at South Newcastle Beach. The incident occurred this afternoon when the man, who was accompanied by his family, encountered difficulties while swimming near the rocks close to the skate park construction site.
Quick-thinking surfers and surf club members immediately rushed to his aid, with the assistance of a jetski. Emergency services, including the NSW Ambulance and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, were promptly summoned to the scene. The helicopter landed on the beach, delivering two Critical Care Paramedics to provide medical assistance.
Despite the valiant efforts of the first responders who administered first aid, it is with great sadness that the man could not be revived.
