A major search is underway at Catherine Hill Bay after reports of four women stranded on rocks south of the beach as the tide came in on Saturday afternoon.

Lake Macquarie Police District officers were called to the area about 1.40pm after witnesses reported seeing four females on the rocks shortly after 1pm. As the tide rose, the group could no longer be seen.
Police quickly launched a search operation with assistance from Marine Area Command and the Westpac helicopter. Despite extensive efforts, the group has not been found.
One of the females is believed to have been wearing red shorts at the time she was last seen. Authorities have not confirmed if the group managed to make it to safety.
A NSW Police spokesperson said: “Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the group is urged to contact Belmont Police Station on (02) 4922 8899 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
Residents and beachgoers are being asked to stay clear of the search area while emergency services continue operations. Police have also appealed for anyone who may have been in the area and witnessed the incident to come forward.
The search remains ongoing this afternoon, with updates expected as more information becomes available.
