News Alert: Police Seek Public Assistance in Gateshead Shooting Investigation
Lake Macquarie Police District investigators have issued a renewed appeal for information regarding a shooting incident that occurred in Gateshead last month.
On Thursday, May 18, 2023, at approximately 4:05 a.m., emergency services swiftly responded to a residence on Flame Street following reports of gunshots. The incident resulted in a 41-year-old man sustaining a gunshot wound to his leg.
Authorities from the Lake Macquarie Police District, accompanied by NSW Ambulance paramedics, promptly arrived at the scene. The injured man was promptly provided medical assistance by paramedics before being transported to a hospital. Thankfully, his injuries are deemed non-life-threatening.
Preliminary information suggests that the man and his family were asleep at the time of the incident and were awakened by two loud noises. The man sustained his injury when a projectile penetrated the front window of their home.
In light of this incident, a comprehensive crime scene has been established, and Lake Macquarie Detectives have taken charge of the investigation.
As part of their ongoing inquiries, investigators have released a CCTV image of an individual they believe may possess vital information relevant to the case. The individual is described as a Caucasian male, approximately 175cm tall, with a slim build. He was captured on camera wearing a dark hooded jumper, light pants, and dark shoes.
Additionally, the police are keen to identify four males who were observed walking along Flame Street in Gateshead shortly before the shooting occurred.
Members of the public who may have any information related to the incident or possess dashcam footage captured between 3:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. on May 18, 2023, in the vicinity of Flame Street are urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000.
