A Hunter Valley man has been extradited from Victoria and charged over an alleged domestic violence incident in the Hunter region.

Police allege that on 25 May 2026, a 37-year-old man strangled his partner during an incident at a home in Lovedale.

Following the alleged assault, the man is accused of fleeing interstate to avoid arrest. An arrest warrant was subsequently issued by the Cessnock Local Court as police continued inquiries into his whereabouts.

On 15 June 2026, officers from Victoria Police allegedly located the man driving near Cobram, Victoria, where he was arrested under the outstanding warrant and taken to Wodonga Police Station.

The following day, officers attached to the Hunter Valley Police District’s Domestic Violence Action Team travelled to Albury, where they obtained an extradition order.

The man was then transported to Albury Police Station and charged with multiple offences, including common assault, intentionally choking a person, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and intimidation.

Police refused bail, which was later formally refused by the court.

Hunter Valley Police praised the joint efforts of officers across state borders, describing the arrest as an example of strong multi-agency cooperation to ensure alleged domestic violence offenders are held accountable.

The 37-year-old remains before the courts.
