At last week’s council meeting Independent Councilor Ian Olsen put a Notice of Motion to remove a $165 fee from the 4 swimming clubs in the Cessnock LGA was voted down by the majority with councilors citing council afford it, however Cessnock council was able to find $17,000 to give the organisers of the Stomp festival.
Four Independent councilors have decided that they will be donating their recent increase in allowances of $2500 to worthy causes in the community. This week the independent’s have step up where other councilors failed to support local swimming clubs by voting against waving a small fee, all four independent’s have donated $250 each and passed it onto Coalfields, Masters, Cessnock and Branxton Swimming Clubs to cover the $165 and other expenses.
