Cessnock City Council has removed the remaining rotunda at TAFE Park, citing vandalism and safety concerns.
One of the structures had been burnt to the ground, while the remaining rotunda had also been vandalised and was reportedly being used by homeless people.
With major events scheduled at TAFE Park in coming weeks – including the Stomp Festival and the Postie Bike Race Grand Prix – council says the decision was due to vandalism.
Many local residents have expressed disappointment over the removal of the rotundas, noting the structures provided shelter and a community gathering space.
There are currently no plans to replace the rotundas.
