The man charged over the fatal assault of an elderly man at a Charlestown shopping centre has faced court today.
Graham John Norman, 53, appeared before Magistrate E Bushby at the Local Court – Crime, Bail Division, via video link on Thursday, 21 August 2025.
Norman has been charged with murder and assault with intent to rob while armed with an offensive weapon causing grievous bodily harm following the death of an 83-year-old man in a Charlestown car park on Wednesday.
No application for bail was made. Bail was formally refused.
The case has now been adjourned to Newcastle Local Court for a brief status (committal) hearing on 22 October 2025 at 9:30am.
Norman will remain in custody and is expected to appear via audio-visual link at the next court date.
