A dramatic citizen’s arrest has unfolded in Charlestown following a collision between a motorbike and a mobility scooter at the Frederick Street intersection.
Video footage shows a motorbike rider speeding through the intersection before striking an elderly man on a mobility scooter. The impact sent the man flying, prompting immediate concern from bystanders.
As the rider attempted to flee the scene on foot, members of the public quickly gave chase, detaining the 18-year-old and performing a citizen’s arrest. Others rushed to the aid of the injured man.
Police arrived shortly after, formally arresting the rider. Charges are pending as investigations continue.
