Detectives are appealing for public assistance as investigations continue into a violent armed robbery at a licensed premises in Clarence Town earlier this month.

Emergency services were called to Grey Street, Clarence Town, about 6am on Thursday, 4 June, following reports of an armed robbery.

Officers attached to Port Stephens-Hunter Police District were told a 52-year-old man had been assaulted by two men allegedly armed with a baseball bat and a firearm.

Police allege the offenders stole cash before fleeing the scene in the victim’s vehicle.

The 52-year-old man suffered serious head injuries and was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being transported to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition.

A crime scene was established, and detectives commenced an investigation.

The stolen vehicle was later located abandoned on Rifle Street in Clarence Town. It has since been seized for forensic examination.

As investigations continue, detectives have released CCTV footage of two men who may be able to assist with inquiries.

The first man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 190cm tall, of thin build and speaking with an Australian accent. He was last seen wearing blue track pants, a dark zip-up jacket, black and yellow gloves, and a dark balaclava.

The second man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 178cm tall, of solid build and speaking with an Australian accent. He was last seen wearing dark pants, a dark hooded jacket, black and white gloves, and a dark balaclava.
