🔴 DNA BREAKTHROUGH: Arrest Made 29 Years After Central Coast Child Assault
A major DNA breakthrough has led to the arrest of a man nearly three decades after an alleged sexual assault on a nine-year-old boy on the Central Coast.
Police say the incident occurred on Tuesday 26 March 1996, when the child was allegedly sexually assaulted by a man unknown to him. Detectives launched an investigation, but despite extensive inquiries at the time, no arrest was made.
Following new forensic developments, detectives from the Tuggerah Lakes Criminal Investigation team yesterday arrested a 65-year-old man at Bathurst Police Station.
He was charged with:
• Sexual intercourse with a person under 10
• Attempted sexual intercourse with a person under 10
The man was refused bail and is due to appear before Bail Division Court 4 today (Thursday 27 November 2025).
Police say the arrest highlights the importance of advancing DNA technology in solving long-running investigations.
