Dr Seuss to discontinue printing six titles that use racist and insensitive imagery

Six books by Dr Seuss will be discontinued due to racist and insensitive imagery, the company says.

Titles including And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street and If I Ran the Zoo will cease printing.

“These books portray people in ways that are hurtful and wrong,”

“Ceasing sales of these books is only part of our commitment and our broader plan to ensure Dr Seuss Enterprises’ catalogue represents and supports all communities and families.”

In the book And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street, an Asian person is portrayed wearing a conical hat, holding chopsticks, and eating from a bowl.

This move comes a week after Disney added warnings to some episodes of the Muppets that contain racist or insensitive scenes and Mr Potato head removes Mr and Mrs from their branding.
