A truck driver has been airlifted to hospital following a serious crash at Mount Vincent, near Cessnock, this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to Leggetts Drive about 3.50pm after a pantech truck left the roadway and slammed into a power pole and tree, leaving the driver trapped inside the cab.

Specialist rescue crews from VRA Rescue NSW and Toronto Fire & Rescue worked to stabilise the vehicle before beginning a complex extrication operation.

Using hydraulic rescue tools, reciprocating saws, and stabilisation equipment from a heavy rescue truck, crews removed the vehicle’s doors and carried out a dash push to relieve pressure on the driver’s legs. A rescue platform was also used to assist access due to the height and angle of the truck.

Once freed, the driver was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being flown by the Toll Rescue Helicopter to hospital for further assessment and treatment.

The incident required a coordinated response from multiple emergency services working together to safely free the trapped driver.
