A man is set to face court today after a police pursuit through Aberdare ended in a crash and foot chase in the Hunter Valley on Sunday.
Around 12:40pm on 7 December, officers from the Traffic & Highway Patrol Command attempted to stop a white Suzuki on Melbourne Street. The driver allegedly failed to stop, sparking a pursuit that was soon terminated due to safety concerns. Moments later, the same vehicle reportedly lost control on Cessnock Road, crashing into another car.
Police arrived to find the driver fleeing the scene. Officers chased him on foot and arrested the 28-year-old Neath man shortly after. He allegedly failed a roadside sobriety assessment and was taken to hospital for further testing before being returned to Cessnock Police Station.
He has now been charged with 11 offences, including police pursuit, driving with an expired licence, failing to exchange details, displaying misleading plates, using an unregistered and uninsured vehicle, goods in custody, and drug-related offences including supply and possession. He is due to appear in Bail Court Division #2 today.
