Elderly woman rescued from car door by heroic volunteers and paramedics

In a heartwarming display of community spirit, a group of volunteers from the Volunteer Rescue Association (VRA) and NSW Ambulance came together to rescue an elderly woman trapped in her car door in Cessnock yesterday.

At 1652, the VRA squad received an urgent call for a domestic rescue. Upon arriving at the scene, they found an elderly woman whose finger was trapped in the front of her car door. This was an unusual situation, as fingers are usually trapped near the handle of the car door.

Fortunately, the woman had some quick-thinking neighbors who were on the scene before medical personnel arrived. They refrained from trying to open the door and potentially causing more harm to the woman’s injured finger.

The VRA volunteers worked alongside NSW Ambulance paramedics to free the woman’s finger using a manual hydraulic rabbit tool. The tool was inserted into the small gap in the door and slowly spread until there was enough room for the woman’s finger to be released.

The woman was then taken to John Hunter Hospital by road ambulance, where she will be assessed and treated for her injuries.

The VRA Rescue NSW team commended the heroic actions of the neighbors and thanked NSW Ambulance for their collaboration in the successful rescue mission.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of community spirit and the tireless work of emergency responders who work together to keep us safe.
