MAITLAND – The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast what they’re calling moderate to heavy rainfall this weekend across the Hunter and Mid North Coast, and guess what? The NSW SES is now urging locals to “stay informed” — bureaucratic code for we’re not evacuating you yet, but don’t get comfortable.
Minor flooding is predicted along the Hunter River, particularly around Maitland and surrounding areas. For those living in low-lying regions, you may want to rethink your weekend plans that involve roads, bridges, or staying dry.
What’s Coming?
- Heavy rain from Saturday into Sunday
- Minor flooding likely in Hunter and Mid North Coast catchments
- Floodwaters expected to impact:
- Low-lying areas near the river
- Roads, bridges, and causeways — you know, the places you need to get out
So, should you panic? No.
Should you trust government to get it right? Also no.
Download the Hazards Near Me app (yes, another government app) and set up “Watch Zones” — because apparently, a flood warning is something you now need a push notification for.
For actual help, call NSW SES on 132 500, and if it’s all gone sideways — Triple Zero (000) is still your go-to.
Stay informed. Stay dry. And maybe don’t park your car next to the river this weekend.
