The BOM is forecasting widespread thunderstorms that could cause flash flooding over the east coast of Australia which includes good rainfall over active fairgrounds of the east coast of Australia rainfalls of 30mm to 80mm are expected.

The problem with predicting thunderstorms are the rainfall predictions can be hit and miss, it’s hard to tell where the rainfall and how much, The RFS is hopeful that some of the active fire grounds.

Flash flooding and landslides are real risks for areas that have been affected by the Bush fire Crisis, water supplies may become contaminated by ash and silt.

Curtains and booms to trap silt and ash from bushfires have been installed in the Warragamba Dam, as concerns grow that rain could lead to contamination of the water.

The Warragamba Dam is currently at 43.7 per cent capacity, which means rain is desperately needed, but there is less opportunity for ash and other debris to be diluted.

Professor Khan said smaller regional dams might need more intervention to keep water drinkable, like the addition of chlorine.
