Newcastle Police Arrest 23-Year-Old After Reckless Pursuit Ends in Collision
Today, a 23-year-old man is set to face Newcastle Local Court after being charged following a high-speed pursuit on Wednesday, October 25, 2023. The pursuit, initiated by Newcastle City Police District, began when the man failed to stop his Volkswagen Polo for a routine breath test on Newcastle Road, Wallsend.
According to the authorities, the situation escalated as the vehicle collided with two others at the intersection of Metcalfe and Thomas Street, Wallsend. Fortunately, no injuries were reported by the drivers of the other vehicles.
Following the collision, the driver fled the scene but was apprehended shortly thereafter. The individual was subsequently taken to the John Hunter Hospital for evaluation before being transferred to Waratah Police Station for processing.
The accused, a Speers Point resident, faces charges including reckless driving during the pursuit, failure to provide details to the other driver, suspicion of holding stolen goods, and driving without a license. He has been denied bail and is scheduled to appear in court today.
