Emergency services responded to a house fire on Phillip Street at Raymond Terrace early this morning after reports of smoke coming from an abandoned property.
Fire crews arrived at the scene just before 1am to find smoke issuing from the vacant home. Firefighters quickly worked to extinguish the blaze and prevent it from spreading to neighbouring houses.
Thankfully, no occupants were inside the property and no injuries were reported.
Firefighters from Fire and Rescue NSW station 454 Tarro were assisted by NSW RFS – Raymond Terrace Brigade, with NSW Ambulance and the NSW Police Force also attending the incident.
Despite the home being abandoned, smoke alarms could reportedly be heard sounding on arrival.
Fire authorities are reminding residents to ensure their homes have working smoke alarms installed and to have a fire escape plan in place. More information about home fire safety can be found on the official Fire and Rescue NSW smoke alarm safety page.
