Merewether High School was briefly evacuated this morning after reports of smoke coming from an external air-conditioning unit.
Fire and Rescue NSW received multiple triple-zero calls about 10.50am reporting smoke billowing from the unit on school grounds.
Four fire trucks and 16 firefighters responded, with the first crew arriving just six minutes after the initial call.
Firefighters quickly contained the fire to the air-conditioning unit, preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings.
School staff and teachers followed evacuation procedures, and students were safely evacuated as a precaution. After the scene was declared safe, students were able to return to their classrooms.
No injuries were reported.
