Emergency services were called to the crash just before 10pm, where a small hatchback had struck a roadside guard rail. One occupant remained trapped in the vehicle when crews arrived.
Volunteers from VRA Rescue NSW stabilised the car while NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the casualty inside. Hydraulic rescue tools were then used to remove both passenger side doors and the B pillar, creating enough space for a safe extrication.
Under the guidance of paramedics, rescuers assisted with carefully placing the patient onto a spine board before transferring them to an ambulance stretcher. The person was transported from the scene for further medical care.
With no fire appliance on site, the VRA crew also provided fire protection throughout the rescue. Their volunteers later remained at the scene to supply lighting so the Crash Investigation Unit (CIU) could carry out examinations into the cause of the accident.
The incident was supported by multiple agencies including NSW Ambulance and VRA Rescue NSW – Region East. Local representatives and media outlets were notified following the crash.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the collision are continuing.
