A dramatic rescue unfolded yesterday afternoon after a motorcyclist was seriously injured in remote bushland between Kitchener and Kearsley.
At 1:08 PM, Cessnock VRA Rescue was called in to assist NSW Ambulance with reports of an injured rider in difficult terrain. The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was also deployed to the scene.
A team of VRA volunteers used a 4WD to get as close as possible before trekking through the bush on foot to locate the casualty. Once found, they provided an urgent situation report and guided in helicopter paramedics who were winched to the scene.
A second VRA team followed on foot with a mule stretcher. After being treated and stabilized on-site, the rider—who had sustained serious injuries—was carried approximately 300 metres through the bush to a waiting ambulance for further treatment.
While this complex rescue was underway, the VRA received a second emergency call in Cessnock to gain entry to a premises. Two members broke off to respond, while the remaining team completed the extraction.
Cessnock VRA praised the efforts of all involved and extended a special thanks to the NSW RFS Central-Cessnock Brigade for their valuable assistance.
