Authorities are appealing for public assistance following the tragic death of a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle on the New England Highway in the Hunter region. The incident occurred near Harpers Hill, approximately 1 km east of Greta, around 9:30 pm on Wednesday, 30 October 2024.
Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene, where they found a 37-year-old man who had been hit by a vehicle. NSW Ambulance paramedics provided urgent care, but tragically, the man died at the scene. Officers from the Port Stephens-Hunter Valley Police District discovered that the vehicle involved failed to stop after the collision. A crime scene was subsequently established, and the Crash Investigation Unit is now working on the case.
Investigators have identified the possible make and model of the vehicle involved, believed to be a 2006-2009 Toyota Camry or Aurion with potential front-end and bonnet damage. Police are urging anyone who may have information, particularly if they’ve noticed a car matching this description, to come forward.
