KURRI KURRI $600M GAS FIRED POWER STATION GETS THE GREEN LIGHT

The Morrison Government has allocated $600m to build a gas power station at Kurri Kurri to fill the 1000 megawatt shortage that will be caused by the closure of the Lidell Coal Power Station.

  • $600 Million Dollars to build a gas power station.
  • 600 hundred construction jobs.
  • 660 Megawatts generated.

Scott Morrison has followed through on his threat to build a gas power station in the Hunter if the private sector failed to do so.

The Gas Power Station will generate 660 Megawatts of energy plugging the gap left by the closure of Liddell Power Station near Muswellbrook along with another 316 Megawatt gas plant being built in Wollongong. The project will create 600 construction jobs at its peak.

In a statement issued by Engery Minster Angus Tayor he said this project will keep energy prices down.

“Cheap power is crucial to ensuring families, businesses and job-creating industries in NSW can thrive, which is why we are committed to replacing the energy generated by Liddell to keep prices down,” Mr Taylor said.

“This project will deliver flexible gas generation to replace Liddell and maintain reliable power alongside Australia’s world-leading investment in renewables.”

Member for Hunter Labors Joel Fitzgibbon is over the moon with the news of the Project being built in the Hunter and predicts coal will still be around for more than a decade.

Great news. The Hunter’s energy investment pipeline includes large scale solar, battery storage, pumped hydro, hydrogen, and a gas peaking station. Some of our coal generation capacity will be around for more than a decade still. Diversity is our middle name. Said Mr Fitzgibbon.

Stuart Bonds who has recently dumped by One Nation and now looking like running as an independent for the Seat Hunter reaction says it all.

“Boom…

Then there was a gas plant…” Said Stuart Bonds, who is a strong supporter of Coal Mining.
