NewFM 1053 caused quite a stir this afternoon by suggesting that the Reserve was undergoing a renaming. However, our extensive search of the internet yielded no official name for the Reserve, indicating that the proposal is merely for naming the reserve and not renaming it.

In an announcement by the Geographical Names Board, it was revealed that Lake Macquarie Council has put forth a proposed name for a reserve situated at 90 Lake Forest Drive, Murrays Beach. The council’s suggestion is to name the reserve “Karakai Park” in accordance with Section 8 of the Geographical Names Act 1966.

The name “Karakai Park” aligns with the council’s vision for the reserve, highlighting its potential as a recreational area for both residents and visitors. After the submission period concludes, the Geographical Names Board will carefully review all comments received and make a decision regarding the proposed name.
Residents and stakeholders are strongly encouraged to actively participate in the public consultation process and share their thoughts on the proposed name for the reserve. The Geographical Names Board values the engagement of the community and believes that involving the public is crucial when it comes to decisions pertaining to geographical names.
If approved, “Karakai Park” will officially become the name for the reserve at Murrays Beach, contributing to the diverse range of geographical names in the Lake Macquarie area.
