The Liberal Party has endorsed senior mining and manufacturing executive Emma King as its candidate for Shortland, vowing to tackle the cost-of-living crisis and deliver a better deal for local families.
A proud Eleebana resident and mother, King has firsthand experience of the challenges faced by local families. “We have experienced the opportunities and struggles that come with living, working, and raising a family in this vibrant community,” she said.
King highlighted the financial strain on households, with rising rents, mortgages, and soaring costs of food, energy, and insurance. “Labor has failed our community. Prime Minister Albanese promised cheaper mortgages, but instead, a typical mortgage interest bill has risen by $50,000 since the election. He also pledged to cut energy bills by $275 by 2025, yet families are paying hundreds more,” she said.
With a background in industry and a deep understanding of small business challenges through her husband’s business, King pledged to advocate for local jobs, economic growth, and small businesses.
“The Liberal team is focused on delivering infrastructure, housing, and fighting inflation, which has devastated family budgets. As part of the Dutton Liberal team, I will be a strong voice for Shortland, bringing real-world experience and a commitment to giving back to the community,” King said.
She concluded by reinforcing the Liberals’ vision: “We will get Australia back on track with low inflation, cheaper energy, affordable homes, and a safer community.”
