Local News: Thornton Roads Upgrades Funding Promised by Labor MP Meryl Swanson Still Missing
Maitland Councilor Mitchell Griffin has voiced his frustration over the lack of funding for Thornton roads upgrades, a promise made by Labor MP Meryl Swanson during her election campaign.
In a recent Facebook post, Cr Griffin expressed disappointment, stating, “Very disappointed to see Thornton roads missing out yet again in the Federal Budget this week.” Despite Swanson’s commitment over two years ago to fast-track the M1 extension from Black Hill to Raymond Terrace and upgrade roads at Heddon Greta and Thornton, no funding has been allocated.
With an election looming in the next 12 months, it seems unlikely that this important road network will receive funding during this government term, leading to accusations of a broken promise.
