Mobile phone outages are expected to hit Maitland residents over the next week, with Telstra confirming major disruptions while upgrading a local mobile tower.
Customers could be left without reliable service on 29–30 January (7am–7pm) and again from 2–6 February — all day, every day.
That means:
📵 Dropped calls
📵 No data
📵 Patchy reception
📵 Frustrated residents and businesses
Telstra says the outages are necessary to “improve” 4G and 5G services — but for many locals, it means being cut off with little choice.
Even the Maitland Electorate Office has warned it may be affected, advising people to email instead if phone lines go dead.
⚠️ Telstra has confirmed Triple Zero calls should connect via another network — but residents are questioning why essential services are being disrupted in the first place.
📢 What do you think?
Should Telstra be allowed to knock out mobile service across an entire community for days at a time? Or should there be better planning and backup options?
