A man in his 40s has been airlifted to the John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition after being trapped in his vehicle for around 90 minutes down an embankment near Giro.

Just after 9am on Tuesday, NSW Ambulance paramedics were called to Thunderbolts Way, south-east of Giro, where they found the man suffering head and chest injuries. He was treated at the scene before being winched from the area and transported by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.

A woman in her 40s, also involved in the incident, was treated for a suspected arm injury and taken to John Hunter Hospital by road ambulance.

NSW Ambulance has confirmed both patients were transported for further treatment, with the man in a stable condition.
