Man Charged After Alleged Armed Robbery and Theft Incidents in Hamilton
A man has been charged following an investigation into an alleged stealing incident and armed robbery in Newcastle’s Hamilton area.
Police allege that about 8.45pm on Monday, 11 May, two men entered a bottle shop on Tudor Street, Hamilton, before stealing seven bottles of spirits.
Just hours later, about 2am on Tuesday, 12 May, emergency services were called to a service station on Tudor Street following reports of an armed robbery.
Officers were told two men allegedly threatened a staff member with a screwdriver before fleeing the scene with cash and cigarettes.
Detectives attached to Newcastle City Police District established crime scenes and launched an investigation into both incidents.
About 10.10am on Tuesday, police attempted to stop a man on Gordon Street, Hamilton. Following a foot pursuit, a 23-year-old man was arrested on Elcho Street.
Police allegedly seized 18 pouches of tobacco, two packets of cigarettes, and bolt cutters during a search of the man.
He was taken to Newcastle Police Station and charged with larceny, stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm, and robbery armed with an offensive weapon.
The man was refused bail and is due to appear before Bail Division Court 2 today, Wednesday 13 May 2026.
Investigations remain ongoing.
