A man has been charged following an alleged armed robbery at a hotel in Clarence Town last month.

Emergency services were called to a hotel on Grey Street about 6am on Thursday, 4 June, after reports of an armed robbery.

Police were told a 52-year-old man was allegedly assaulted by two men armed with a baseball bat and a firearm before the pair allegedly stole cash and fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle.

The injured man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition with head injuries.

Officers from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District established a crime scene and detectives launched an investigation under Strike Force Damina.

Following extensive inquiries, detectives, assisted by State Crime Command’s Raptor North, arrested a 38-year-old man at a shopping centre in Green Hills about 6.30pm on Wednesday.

He was taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station and charged with armed robbery with a dangerous weapon.

The man was refused bail and is due to appear before Bail Division Court today (Thursday, 2 July).

Police say investigations into the alleged robbery are continuing.
