A man has been charged following an alleged carjacking in Coffs Harbour yesterday, during which a child was inside the vehicle.
At approximately 5 p.m. on Saturday, 18 January 2025, police were called to Tiffany Close after reports of a car being stolen. According to police, a 32-year-old man allegedly took a sedan with a child inside, striking a 22-year-old woman in the process as she tried to intervene. The woman sustained minor injuries.
The man allegedly drove the car to Mackays Road, where he removed the child and handed them to a passerby. A large-scale police search was launched, and the child was located unharmed.
Shortly after, officers arrested the man at a property on Kathleen Drive, Dirty Creek. The vehicle was seized for forensic examination.
The man was taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station and charged with multiple offenses, including aggravated taking of a vehicle with a person inside, driving without a license, and causing actual bodily harm.
He was refused bail and is set to appear before Parramatta Local Court via video link today, Sunday, 19 January 2025.
