A 61-year-old man has been charged with murder following the death of an elderly woman at a home in Port Stephens.
Emergency services were called to a property on Taylor Road, Fern Bay, about 12.30pm on Thursday, 18 December 2025, where officers from the Port Stephens Hunter Police District located an 88-year-old woman deceased inside the home.
Police established a crime scene and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
A short time later, a 61-year-old man attended Newcastle Police Station in relation to the incident. Following inquiries, detectives arrested the man, who is known to the woman.
He has since been charged with murder (domestic violence-related).
The man was refused bail and is due to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Friday, 19 December 2025.
