A 33-year-old man has been charged with murder following an investigation into the disappearance of a woman in Sydney’s northwest.

Police launched an investigation on Tuesday after concerns were raised for the welfare of a 58-year-old woman who failed to return home. Family members told officers they last spoke with her about 4:50pm on Monday, when she said she was meeting a relative in Winston Hills.

The woman’s vehicle was located on Dodson Street, Winston Hills, about 9:30am on Tuesday, prompting detectives from Parramatta Police Area Command to establish Strike Force Dizek.

Following extensive inquiries, detectives arrested a 33-year-old man about 1:40pm on Thursday while he was seated in a white Toyota Hilux in bushland along Parnell Fire Trail at Tomerang, south of Nowra.

A search warrant was later executed at a property in Sanctuary Point.

The man was taken to Nowra Police Station, where he was charged with murder. He was refused bail and is due to appear before Bail Division Court on Friday.

Police have not yet located the woman’s body and investigations remain ongoing.
