A man is in a critical condition after an alleged home invasion and stabbing in Cliftleigh, near Maitland, in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Emergency services were called to a property on Grevillea Street around 1.20am on June 27, 2026, following reports of a break-in.

Police from the Hunter Valley Police District were told a man allegedly forced entry into the home through the front door before stabbing a 30-year-old man inside the residence and fleeing the scene.

A woman was also present at the time of the incident but was not physically injured.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the injured man at the scene for serious abdominal injuries before transporting him to hospital in a critical condition.

A NSW Ambulance spokesperson said the Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked to attend, but was not required.

Police remain at the scene and investigations are ongoing, with inquiries continuing into the whereabouts of the alleged offender.
